It does matter if you are going away for a backpacking, thinking of what to take with you can be stressful. With shrinking airline luggage allowances and the demands of busy travel itineraries, essential items that can make life so much easier can be easily overlooked.

We hope our little guide to handy accessories for backpacking travel will set you off on the right track, or at least give you a chance to consider what’s worth packing before heading off on your backpacking.

The first rule to packing is to remember that less is very definitely more! Have an essential kit that works together, one that you can pack away on a return that is ready and waiting for your next trip. Consider the items that are practical:

Must be included in every backpack on the trail

These items are meant for surviving the outing and should be carried every time you go into the wilderness.

If you are sure how to read a map or use a compass, then take the time to learn because they can help you whether you are hiking on or off the trail. While you are hiking stay alert at all times and pay close attention to your surroundings. Now and then you should turn around and orient yourself to your map.

A Small Rucksack

A small rucksack is perfect for storing essentials when you head out on day trips. Consider one with a front pocket large enough for your travel documents and enough space in the main section for your books, newspaper, a snack and any other bits you may need at the airport. Rucksacks are comfortable to wear. The back straps allow you to free your hands for other important duties like carting the luggage or holding the kid’s hands. They are also great for shopping whilst on holiday giving ample room to fit in your sun screens, drinks and daily necessities.

Money-Belt

Travel Plug Adaptor

If taking any electrical item abroad, a plug adaptor is necessary. A small adaptor, allowing you to convert your two or three pin plug to fit the sockets in your chosen destination, will save you no end of hassle trying to buy one locally on arrival.

The above mentioned gear are just some of the essential things that you need to have when backpacking. They are also perfect Christmas gifts for travelers.
